Ming-Wai Lau, GBS JP

Ming-Wai Lau, Chair Emeritus, was Chairman of the Foundation from May 2017 to August 2020, during which the organisation attained its charity registration, expanded programme offerings and events, advanced fundraising initiatives, and grew significantly.

He is Director of MWYO, a youth-oriented think-and-do tank; Chairman of the Bauhinia Foundation Research Centre, an independent policy think tank; and Chairman of Chinese Estates Holdings Limited.

Ming-Wai holds LLB, LLM, and PhD degrees from King’s College London and the London School of Economics, University of London. His PhD dissertation was published as a book by Oxford University Press in 2011, and was a Visiting Lecturer at Harvard Law School from 2014-2020. He is also a registered attorney in the State of New York and a CFA charterholder.

Ming-Wai is active in public affairs in Hong Kong. He is the Vice-Chairman of Youth Development Commission, Chairman of the Board of the Ocean Park Corporation, a member of the Exchange Fund Advisory Committee, a member of Chief Executive’s Council of Advisers on Innovation and Strategic Development. He was awarded the Gold Bauhinia Star (GBS) for meritorious public and community service in 2017.
